Designed for the San Mateo 2009 Maker’s Faire fashion show, this garment was designed for a dancer to interact with while expressively moving her hands over the surface of the dress as she danced across stage. Two conductive panels built into the front of the dress served as switches which triggered the glorious siren of squarewaves via an Arduino performing simple pulse width modulation. The resulting sound was amplified through a homemade speaker. The speaker was built out of a very large magnet sitting in the center of hand-coiled copper wire, all covered with a silk diaphragm, installed in the back of the dress.
